Case Study 1 - Contact Energy Stratford Power Station.

We were asked by Contact Energy at Stratford Power Station to do a feasibility study of their main pond which feeds operating areas with fresh water. The main pond which draws water from the river is in excess of 10000 sq.m. There was considerable algal growth present with correspondingly high pH levels above 9.0, turbidity was also high, both impacting on various operational areas.

Two early, different manufactured, units had been installed some time ago but they were not  working and examination showed them to be beyond economic repair.

Two Envirosonic ES300 units were installed in the main pond sited in corners. These units  have a particularly long range and were easily able to saturate the whole pond with ultrasound waves.

A fter just a few weeks the results were very noticable, with a massive reduction in harmful algaes and a corresponding lowering of pH levels. Water clarity was also very much improved and no algal growth was seen around the pond edges which had been particularly fouled before installation.

The following results show the before and after installation readings. The Generation Engineer and Enviromental and Process Chemist at Stratford Karen Baker, who commissioned the installation, was delighted with the time taken to get the results. To quote her own words "Truly incredible, the pond water went from pea and ham soup to swimming pool quality water in a matter of a couple of weeks".
